Airline overview
Alaska Airlines is a Seattle-based oneworld carrier that became a long-haul airline in 2026: Boeing 787-9 flights from Seattle to Tokyo launched in January, followed by Seoul, London Heathrow, Rome, and Reykjavik in the spring, on top of the Hawaiian Airlines network it absorbed. The loyalty program is Atmos Rewards, which replaced Mileage Plan in August 2025 and is best known for a distance-based award chart with a free stopover and a deep set of partners (JAL, Cathay Pacific, Qatar, and more).
Cashback portal strategy
There isn’t one. This is the only retailer on the site where the first layer is missing entirely.

The one indirect route is worth knowing: Rakuten cashback can be paid out as Bilt points, and Bilt transfers 1:1 to Atmos. So shopping through Rakuten on other retailers can fund Alaska awards, even though Alaska flights themselves earn nothing on the portal.

Credit card / Amex Offer strategy
Amex Offer, live now. $80 back on $400 or more spent directly with Alaska or Hawaiian (website or app, seats and bags count) through September 30, 2026. Alaska Amex Offers recur roughly twice a year; the prior one was $60 back on $300 and ran through December 2025. Add it to the Platinum and both the credit and the 5x post on the same charge.
Category earning. Airfare booked direct earns Amex Platinum 5x, Chase Sapphire Reserve 4x, and Capital One Venture X 2x.
The $200 incidental credit. Alaska is one of eight airlines eligible for the Platinum’s annual airline fee credit. It does not cover fares, but it covers checked bags, seat selection, and lounge day passes. Pay for those separately from the fare so the credit triggers.
Co-branded cards. The Atmos Ascent Visa ($95) earns 3x on Alaska and includes the $99 Companion Fare. The Atmos Summit Visa Infinite ($395) earns 3x on Alaska, dining, and foreign purchases, with a 100,000-point bonus, eight lounge passes, an annual Global Companion Award, and status points. Neither beats the Platinum’s 5x on the fare itself; they are status-and-perks cards.
Atmos Rewards and transfers
Atmos transfers in only from Bilt (1:1) and Marriott Bonvoy (3:1). Amex, Chase, Citi, and Capital One do not transfer, and Alaska has said publicly that it does not plan to add bank partners.
Earning on flights: 1 point per mile flown by default, with a 2026 option to earn 5 points per dollar instead. Basic economy fares booked after June 11, 2026 earn nothing, which makes them a loyalty dead end.
Redeeming: the chart is distance-based with a free stopover, which makes Atmos points most valuable on partner business class (JAL, Cathay, Qatar) rather than on Alaska’s own long-haul. For a Seattle to London business fare, paying cash with the stack above and saving points for a partner redemption is usually the better allocation.
Promo codes and sale windows
Alaska runs flash sales with codes for 24 to 72 hours, typically 20 to 25% off leisure routes (codes like GETAWAY25 and TROPICS20 in 2025), plus $49 to $59 West Coast fares. Because there is no portal to protect, a code is pure upside here. Alaska also allows rebooking for a travel credit when the fare drops after purchase, so book when you see a fare you like and reprice later if it falls.
Common exclusions and fine print
- The Amex Offer requires booking direct with Alaska or Hawaiian; OTAs and Amex Travel do not qualify. Gift cards and inflight purchases are excluded; seats and bags count.
- The $200 incidental credit does not apply to fares, award taxes, or gift cards.
- Basic economy earns no Atmos points.
- Buying Atmos points through points.com does not trigger the Amex Offer.
- There is no portal cashback to lose, so codes and sales carry no stacking risk.

- Check Alaska's deals page for a flash-sale code. If one applies to your route, use it; there is no portal to protect.
- Book direct on alaskaair.com or the app, in USD. Skip basic economy if you care about points.
- Pay the fare with the Platinum for 5x and the offer credit.
- Add bags, seat selection, or lounge passes as a separate transaction so the $200 incidental credit covers them.
- Set a fare alert. If the price drops before you fly, rebook for the difference as a credit.
