Bloomingdale's is a timing retailer. The everyday portal rate is low and the card offers come and go, but two Friends & Family events a year take roughly 25% off, the qualifying items are marked on-site with no code (so portal tracking is safe), and Loyallist points earn on top of both. Buy during the event with a portal click and the Bloomingdale's card, and a $1,000 order clears 29% off. Fall Friends & Family has historically landed in late September.

Retailer overview

Bloomingdale’s is the luxury banner of Macy’s, Inc., and the part of that company that’s been growing while the Macy’s nameplate closes stores. It sits a half-step below Saks and Neiman in price (more contemporary, more accessible designer) and a half-step above Nordstrom in discounting: two Friends & Family events a year at 25% off, a Memorial Day “Big Brown Bag” sale, and a June designer sale.

The stack is modest on any given day and good during the events. What makes Bloomingdale’s easier than its peers is that the Friends & Family discount no longer needs a code, which means the portal and the event stack cleanly.

Cashback portal strategy

Portal Current rate Recent high Exclusions
TopCashback 4% 4% Furniture, mattresses, Wish List items, gift cards, unlisted codes
Rakuten 2% 8-15% (F&F, reported) Gift cards, employee orders, phone and style-advisor orders, 5+ of the same item, resale

TopCashback leads today. Rakuten is the one to re-check during Friends & Family; deal communities consistently report Bloomingdale’s spiking to 8-15% on Rakuten for the event, though we couldn’t pin exact 2025 or 2026 dates. Bloomingdale’s was not in Rakuten’s May 2026 Big Give Week or the November 2025 Holiday Big Deal Reveal.

Cashback is on the post-discount, pre-tax merchandise total. TopCashback holds payout through the return window and takes missing-cashback claims within 100 days.

Credit card / Amex Offer strategy

Amex Offers on Bloomingdale’s have run two or three times a year, most recently $15 and $20 back on $100 (expired July 31, 2026) and $100 back on $500 at the 59th Street store only (expired June 9). Nothing is live today. Chase’s last Bloomingdale’s offer was 20% back (max $83) in October 2023.

Two card-linked offers are running as of mid-September: US Bank 15% back (max $20) through October 1, and Bank of America 4% online through October 3. Both are click-through offers that work like a portal, so they replace Rakuten or TopCashback rather than stacking with them. Take whichever is highest for your order.

Bloomingdale’s codes as a department store (MCC 5311). No travel-card category bonus applies. The card that earns here is the store card.

Loyallist loyalty program

Loyallist is free and, unlike InCircle at Neiman or SaksFirst at Saks, you earn points on any form of payment:

  • 1 point per dollar with any card; 3 points per dollar with the Bloomingdale’s card (4 at Top of the List Unlocked, 10 on select days)
  • 5,000 points = $25 Reward, so 3 pts/$ is worth about 1.5% back
  • Tiers by net annual spend: Loyallist (no minimum), Top of the List ($5,000), Top of the List Unlocked ($15,000)
  • Personal Triple Points Days: two, four, or five a year depending on tier
  • Power Points events: discretionary, category-specific, historically up to 25% back in points

The Bloomingdale’s American Express card earns 3 points per dollar outside Bloomingdale’s too, which is unusual for a store card.

85% of your remaining Loyallist points are forfeited every January 1. Bloomingdale's doesn't phrase it that way on the signup page, but it's in the terms. Redeem in December.

Points earn on sale and Friends & Family purchases and stack with any portal. They don’t earn on the portion of an order paid with gift cards or Rewards.

Promo code opportunities

Since 2025, Friends & Family items are marked on the site and discounted in the cart with no code. That’s the single most stacker-friendly change a department store has made in years, because it removes the “does this code void my cashback” question for the biggest event.

The other codes are the usual ones: 10% off for email or text signup (listed on Rakuten, so it’s safe there) and occasional category codes. TopCashback voids cashback for any code not shown on its page, so use only listed codes when clicking through TopCashback.

Common exclusions

  • Luxury and prestige brands are usually excluded from Friends & Family; the list changes each event
  • Gift cards earn no cashback and no points
  • Furniture and mattresses are excluded on TopCashback
  • Phone and style-advisor orders don’t track
  • Returns claw back both cashback and points
  • Any code not listed on TopCashback voids its cashback; Rakuten lists the signup code

Checkout sequence

  1. Check whether Friends & Family is open. If it's within a few weeks and your item is likely to qualify, wait.
  2. Compare Rakuten and TopCashback on the bloomingdales.com store pages, and check any US Bank or BofA click-through offer on your cards. Take the highest single rate.
  3. Check Amex Offers across all your cards.
  4. Clean browser session, ad blockers off. Click through the portal to Bloomingdale's.
  5. Sign in so Loyallist credits. Build the cart. Friends & Family pricing applies automatically on marked items.
  6. Pay with the Bloomingdale's card (3 pts/$) unless a live Amex Offer is worth more than the extra points.
  7. Confirm the portal shows the order pending within 48 hours.
Worked example

$1,000 order during Friends & Family, Bloomingdale's card

Friends & Family 25% off$250.00
TopCashback 4% on $750$30.00
Loyallist 2,250 pts (3 pts/$)~$11.25
Total saved$291.25 (29%)

With a live $20-on-$100 Amex Offer (paying with that Amex at 1 pt/$ instead), the total is about $303.75 (30%). A 10% Rakuten spike during the event pushes it to roughly 35%.

FAQ

Does Friends & Family need a code?
Not since 2025. Qualifying items are marked on the site and the discount applies in the cart. That removes the usual code-versus-tracking risk, so you can click through a portal and take both.
Which portal should I use?
TopCashback at 4% beats Rakuten at 2% today. During Friends & Family, re-check Rakuten first; it has historically spiked to 8-15% for the event, and a spike beats TopCashback's flat rate.
Do Loyallist points stack with portal cashback?
Yes. They're independent systems. Points earn on sale and Friends & Family purchases, and the portal can't see how you paid. Points don't earn on the portion paid with gift cards or Rewards.
Are luxury brands included in Friends & Family?
Usually not. Prestige and luxury brands are routinely excluded, and the list changes per event. Check the item's "qualifies" flag before assuming.
Do Loyallist points expire?
Effectively yes. 85% of your remaining balance is forfeited every January 1. Redeem in December, every year.
Is there an Amex or Chase Offer right now?
No live offer found. Amex ran $15 and $20 back on $100 through July 31, 2026, and a $100 on $500 at the 59th Street flagship through June 9. Chase's last documented offer was 20% back (max $83) in fall 2023. US Bank (15% back, max $20) and Bank of America (4%) have click-through offers running into early October 2026; those replace the portal rather than stacking with it.
