Retailer overview
Bluemercury is a luxury beauty and spa chain founded in Washington, DC in 1999 and owned by Macy’s since 2015. It carries the prestige skincare and fragrance brands that rarely discount anywhere (La Mer, Augustinus Bader, Sisley, Byredo, Diptyque, SkinCeuticals) alongside its own M-61 and Lune+Aster lines, and it has a couple hundred standalone stores plus counters inside Macy’s.
The interesting part is that Bluemercury discounts on a schedule. Where Sephora ties its discount to your loyalty tier, Bluemercury ties it to your cart: 15% at one threshold, 20% at the next, up to 30% on $1,500 at Black Friday, applied automatically with no code. That “no code” detail is what makes it a stacking retailer rather than a coupon one, because the portal layer stays intact.
Cashback portal strategy
| Portal | Current rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rakuten | 4% online and in-store | Read September 16, 2026, up from 2%. Excludes gift cards, samples, bulk orders. In-store excludes Macy’s locations. Unlisted codes may void cashback. |
| TopCashback | 3% | Item price only. Excludes gift cards, employee discount, and codes not displayed on TopCashback. Start with an empty cart. Claims within 100 days. |
| Capital One Shopping | 3% | Dropped from 8.5% in early September 2026. Excludes certain products and gift cards. Pays in gift-card rewards; rate moves often. |
Rakuten’s 4% is up from the 2% it showed most of the year, and it’s the best cash rate today. TopCashback’s 3% is the steady fallback. Capital One Shopping showed 8.5% in early September 2026 and dropped to 3% by September 16, which is the usual pattern there: the rate moves often and pays in gift-card rewards rather than a check. Check all three the day the sale opens and click whichever is highest.
None of the three list the sale as a coupon, because it isn’t one. The 15% email-signup code and the WELCOME-style codes floating around deal blogs are codes, and they will likely void tracking on all three portals.

Credit card / Amex Offer strategy
Bluemercury has a real, if intermittent, card layer. Offers we could document on bluemercury.com:
- Amex: $20 back on $100, November 4, 2024 to February 1, 2025, in-store and online. A second $20 on $100 ran in 2026 and expired July 31, 2026.
- Chase: 10% back, max $50, expired December 31, 2025.
- Citi: 3% back, expired July 5, 2024.
- US Bank: 10% back, max $20, in-store only, January 16 to 31, 2025.
- Bank of America: 5% online (expired), then 2% online through October 1, 2026 (live, small).
These are statement credits triggered by spend on the enrolled card, so they stack with the sale price, with BlueRewards, and with a portal. The Amex Offer has recurred at roughly yearly intervals; if one lands during a sale window, add it before checkout. Nothing on Amex or Chase was live on September 16, 2026.
Bluemercury codes as a beauty or department-store merchant depending on the issuer, so there’s no category bonus from a premium travel card. Pay with whatever holds the offer; otherwise your best flat-return card.
BlueRewards
Free to join, and worth joining before the first order because it unlocks free standard shipping with no minimum and gates some sale pricing (Black Friday 2025’s tiered discounts and Dyson pricing were members-only).
- Earning: $10 in Beauty Cards for every $250 spent on products and services, capped at $150 per quarter. Taxes, shipping, gift cards, and macys.com purchases don’t count.
- Redemption: Cards are issued in January, April, July, and October and expire at the end of that month. Single use, any unused balance is forfeited, and they can’t be combined with online offers. Plan a cart for the issuance month rather than letting a $10 card lapse.
- Tiers: Silver (under $300), Sapphire ($300 to $999.99), Platinum ($1,000+), measured on the prior calendar year. Sapphire gets early access to sales and launches and more samples; Platinum adds an annual gift (the 2026 Platinum Gift is a listed product), complimentary in-store treatments, and a bigger birthday gift.
- Birthday gift: a full-size product, emailed as a code on the first of your birthday month, redeemable all month with a $25 minimum. 2026 examples: a Lune+Aster mascara at Silver, M-61 Hydraboost pads at Sapphire, a full-size M-61 Hydraboost Concentrate ($78) at Platinum.
- Multipliers: 2x rewards on hair care through September 30, 2026. These run per category a few times a year.
- Referral: Bluemercury has promoted a refer-a-friend perk ($10 Beauty Card per referral, up to $50) with terms dated October 2025. We couldn’t find a live referral link on the site to confirm it’s currently open.
- Samples: free samples with every order, more at Sapphire and above. Gift-with-purchase offers run continuously (a dozen or more at any time) and are added automatically at the threshold; the Spring 2026 event’s 11-piece bag came at $250.
Beauty Cards are effectively a 4% rebate that only pays if you shop in the right month. Portals don’t see them, so they layer.
Best time of year to buy
Between sales, the rolling sale collection runs up to 50% off on discontinued shades and sets, and the limited-edition Edits (Spring Makeup Edit $125, Vacation Edit $149, the anniversary Edit $175, the advent calendar around $300) are the deepest value per dollar but sell out within about two days.
Common exclusions and fine print
- Sale exclusions change per event; Black Friday 2024 excluded Aesop, Baobab, IS Clinical, Jan Marini, Trudon, and Bluemercury sets, and capped SkinCeuticals (15%, 3 units), Creed, Dr. Barbara Sturm, Dyson, MFK, Oribe, and PCA Skin at 20%
- Beauty Cards can’t be combined with online offers, can’t buy gift cards, expire at month end, and give no change
- Email/text 15% and WELCOME codes are codes; unlisted codes void portal cashback
- Gift cards and samples earn no cashback and no Beauty Card credit
- Rakuten in-store excludes Bluemercury inside Macy’s
- Returns within 90 days (gift card after that); final-sale items excluded; exchanges in-store only
- Returns reduce the refund by any Beauty Card used and claw back portal cashback
Checkout sequence
- Join BlueRewards first (free shipping, sale access, Beauty Card credit). Add your birthday.
- Check the Amex, Chase, and Bank of America offer tabs on every card. Enroll anything for bluemercury.com.
- Compare portal rates that day: Rakuten (4% when we checked), TopCashback (3%), Capital One Shopping (3%). Clean browser, ad blockers off, activate one, click through.
- Sign in and build the cart to clear the next spend tier ($300 in the 2025 Anniversary Sale). The discount appears in the cart automatically. Don't enter a code.
- If it's January, April, July, or October, apply your Beauty Card. Note that it can't combine with online offers, so on a sale order it may be refused; test it in the cart and, if refused, save it for a separate full-price order that month.
- Pay with the card holding the offer. Confirm the portal shows the order pending within 48 hours.
$400 cart at the Anniversary Sale
TopCashback or Capital One Shopping at 3% instead of Rakuten: $9.60 back, effective cost about $300 (25% off). If an Amex Offer like the last two ($20 on $100) renews into the window, subtract another $20. At Black Friday, a $1,500 cart at 30% with 4% back and $40 in Beauty Cards lands near $968, or 35% off.
Get alerted when the Anniversary Sale opens.
Bluemercury's sales are short (about ten days) and the limited Edits sell out in 48 hours. We email the day the sale goes live, and when an Amex or Chase Offer lands on bluemercury.com.
