The best way to book Four Seasons in 2026

$500-900 / stay Amex FHR + $300 Platinum hotel credit, or Chase Edit + $250 credit, or a Stay Longer rate

Four Seasons has no loyalty program, no points, no elite tiers, and no reliable cashback portal (Rakuten's listing was a dead page when we checked). The stack is the booking channel. Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts adds breakfast, a $100 property credit, an upgrade when available, and 4pm checkout, and a prepaid FHR booking also triggers the Platinum's $300 semiannual hotel credit. Chase's The Edit does the same with a $500 annual credit split in two. And Four Seasons' own Stay Longer rates (fourth or fifth night free at select properties) can beat both on longer trips. The last Four Seasons Amex Offer ($200 on $1,000) expired August 4, 2026.

Brand overview

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is the gold standard of independent luxury hospitality, over 125 hotels and resorts globally, with consistent service standards that define the category. Owned by Bill Gates and Kingdom Holding since 2007, the brand operates differently from chain competitors like Marriott (Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis) and Hyatt (Park Hyatt): no consumer-facing loyalty program, no chain-wide points system, no elite status to earn through stays.

This makes Four Seasons stack mechanics fundamentally different from a Hilton or Marriott property. Instead of optimizing for points and tier, the optimization is choosing the right booking channel to capture credit-card-side benefits.

The four booking channels, ranked

Same room, same nightly rate, dramatically different value depending on which channel you use.

03 · Longer stays
Stay Longer rates
Four Seasons' own fourth- or fifth-night-free rates at select properties, booked direct. Not combinable with FHR. Often wins at four nights and up.
04 · Through an advisor
Preferred Partner
Booked by an authorized travel advisor at the direct rate. Breakfast for two, $100 credit ($200 on suites), one-category upgrade at check-in. Can't combine with FHR; does work with a live Amex Offer.

Credit card programs in detail

Amex FHR (Fine Hotels + Resorts)

Available to Amex Platinum, Business Platinum, and Centurion cardholders. Book through amextravel.com and search for the property. Benefits per stay:

  • Daily breakfast for two (a la carte at most properties; ~$40-80 per day)
  • $100 property credit (usually spendable on dining, spa, or in-room)
  • Room upgrade at check-in if available
  • 4pm late checkout (guaranteed)
  • Free Wi-Fi and welcome amenity

FHR rates are typically identical to or slightly above the lowest published direct rate, and stack with 5x Membership Rewards on prepaid Amex Travel bookings. A prepaid FHR stay also draws down the Platinum’s $300 semiannual hotel credit (January to June and July to December), which is the single biggest line in the stack. Amex puts the average FHR benefit value at $550 per stay before that credit.

Chase Sapphire Reserve, The Edit

Same benefit structure as FHR (breakfast for two, $100 property credit, upgrade when available, early or late checkout), booked through Chase Travel, earning 8x Ultimate Rewards. The Edit credit is $500 a year, paid as two $250 halves, on prepaid bookings of two nights or more. Sapphire Reserve also carries a separate $250 hotel credit expiring December 31, 2026. Compare FHR and Edit rates on every stay; they sometimes differ by $20-50 a night, and which one wins depends on how much credit you have left in the current half.

Amex Offers

Four Seasons has landed on Amex Offers twice recently: $150 back on $750 (January 29 to May 21, 2025) and $200 back on $1,000 (expired August 4, 2026). Both required booking direct, through Preferred Partner, or pay-at-property FHR, and excluded prepaid FHR. When one is live, a Preferred Partner booking with the offer can beat prepaid FHR without the $300 credit; run both.

Stay Longer and property promotions

Four Seasons’ own Stay Longer rates are live in September 2026: fourth night free at Palm Beach, San Francisco, Punta Mita, London, and Washington DC, and fifth night free at Lanai, Nevis, Costa Rica, and Naviva. Palm Beach’s runs September 14 to December 18 and is not combinable with other offers. Properties also run their own promotions (spa credits, resort credits) that are typically email-only.

Whether property promotions stack with FHR depends on the rate code used. Some do, some don’t. Always compare the math both ways:

  1. Get the total cost with FHR + benefits value
  2. Get the total cost with property promotion + no FHR benefits
  3. Pick the higher net value

Travel advisors (Preferred Partner)

Four Seasons has a third-party advisor program called Preferred Partner, the same benefits as FHR, accessible through authorized travel advisors. Advisors don’t charge clients; they earn commission from Four Seasons.

When to use an advisor: complex multi-property itineraries, special occasions where you want extras coordinated in advance, large group bookings.

When to skip advisors: simple 2-4 night stays at a single property, last-minute bookings.

Best time of year to book

Hotel pricing is dynamic and varies wildly by property. Some general patterns:

  • Shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October in temperate markets) offer the best base rates
  • Property soft-opens after renovation periods sometimes feature introductory rates
  • Sunday-Wednesday stays in business markets (Chicago, NYC, Hong Kong) are significantly cheaper than weekend rates
  • Caribbean and resort properties discount April-June and September-October between high seasons
  • Ski properties discount early-season (early December) and late-season (April) outside peak holiday weeks

Worked example: 3 nights at $1,000

Base rate $1,000 per night, 3 nights = $3,000 before taxes and resort fees, booked prepaid through FHR in the July to December half.

The math via prepaid Amex FHR

Value captured

Amex Platinum $300 hotel credit (July to December half)$300
Daily breakfast for 2 (3 days Ă— ~$70)$210
$100 property credit$100
5x Membership Rewards, 15,000 pts at 1-1.5¢$150-$225
Total captured value$760-$835 (25-28%)

Upgrade and 4pm checkout on top when available. Alternative: a Stay Longer fourth-night-free rate on a 4-night trip is $3,000 for 4 nights, no FHR credit or breakfast; at four nights or more it usually wins, at three it doesn't apply.

Common pitfalls

  • FHR breakfast benefit applies to in-house restaurant breakfast; room service breakfast often carries a $5-15 supplement
  • The $100 property credit often expires at checkout and can’t be applied retroactively, use it before you leave
  • Upgrade is “if available”, at peak occupancy you may not receive one
  • Suite bookings often forfeit the “upgrade” benefit (you’re already at or near the top of the tier)
  • Some promotional rates use different rate codes that exclude FHR benefits, verify at booking
Watch for: the Platinum's $300 semiannual hotel credit triggers only on prepaid FHR or Hotel Collection bookings, and a live Amex Offer applies only to non-prepaid or direct bookings. You can't have both on one stay. Prepaid rates are also non-refundable; do the cancellation math based on your certainty of travel.

Booking sequence

  1. Determine your travel dates and property.
  2. Check the property's Stay Longer offer first. Four nights or more with a free night on the table usually beats FHR.
  3. Check rates on FHR (amextravel.com), The Edit (Chase Travel), and fourseasons.com. Note rate differences and how much hotel credit you have left this half.
  4. Check Amex Offers. If a Four Seasons offer is live, price a Preferred Partner or pay-at-property booking with it against prepaid FHR.
  5. If FHR or Edit rate is within 5% of direct booking, book through the credit card channel, the benefits more than compensate.
  6. Choose prepaid if you're certain of travel; that's what triggers the $300 Platinum credit (or the $250 Edit half). Pay with that card.
  7. Confirm FHR benefits show on the reservation confirmation (breakfast, $100 credit, etc.).
  8. At check-in, mention the FHR booking and ask about welcome amenity and upgrade availability.

FAQ

Why doesn't Four Seasons have a points program?
Founder Isadore Sharp's stated philosophy was that points programs encourage chain loyalty over property quality. Four Seasons competes on service per stay rather than cumulative status benefits.
Is FHR really worth it on a 2-night stay?
Almost always yes. Even on a $400/night base rate, FHR delivers $200-300 in equivalent benefits ($100 credit + ~$80 daily breakfast Ă— 2 + welcome amenity + late checkout). Dollar value typically exceeds one night's room rate by 30-50%.
Does the Amex Platinum hotel credit apply on FHR bookings?
Yes. Since the 2025 Platinum refresh it's $300 per half-year (January to June, July to December) on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings; FHR has no minimum nights, The Hotel Collection needs two. Earlier versions of this page said $200 annually; that's the old benefit. The credit posts as a statement credit within a few weeks.
Is there a Four Seasons Amex Offer?
There was. Spend $1,000, get $200 back expired August 4, 2026, and a $150-on-$750 ran January to May 2025. Both worked on direct, Preferred Partner, and pay-at-property FHR bookings, not prepaid FHR. Nothing is live now; check the Offers tab before booking because the next one will change the math.
What is Stay Longer?
Four Seasons' own fourth-night-free (Palm Beach, San Francisco, Punta Mita, London, Washington DC) and fifth-night-free (Lanai, Nevis, Costa Rica, Naviva) rates, live in September 2026. Palm Beach's runs September 14 to December 18 and can't be combined with other offers. On a four-night stay a free night usually beats FHR's perks; on three nights it doesn't apply.
Does any cashback portal pay on fourseasons.com?
Not reliably. A Rakuten page for Four Seasons at 2% is indexed but returned a dead page when we checked, and CashbackMonitor shows no rate. TopCashback lists only "Four Seasons at Home," an unrelated bedding retailer. Treat the portal layer as zero.
Should I tip the concierge to ensure the upgrade?
Generally no, Four Seasons properties are explicit that upgrades are managed by the front office based on availability, not by concierge discretion. Genuine engagement (responding to pre-arrival emails, being a returning guest) helps more than tips.
What's the difference between FHR and Chase The Edit at Four Seasons?
Same core perks (breakfast for two, $100 property credit, upgrade when available, early or late checkout). The Edit earns 8x Ultimate Rewards through Chase Travel and comes with a $500 annual Edit credit paid as two $250 halves, but it requires a two-night minimum and prepaid booking. FHR earns 5x, has no minimum, and triggers the $300 Platinum credit. Compare the rate and the credit you have left in the current half.
Do Marriott (Ritz, St. Regis) or Hyatt (Park Hyatt) beat the Four Seasons stack?
Different math entirely. Marriott Bonvoy and Hyatt let you earn free nights through points, which Four Seasons doesn't. For travelers accumulating elite status through frequent stays, Marriott/Hyatt luxury properties can yield more total annual value. For occasional luxury stays without status optimization, Four Seasons via FHR usually wins on per-stay value.
