UGG is a brand where the calendar does most of the work. ugg.com pays a flat 2% on Rakuten and TopCashback, and the only card offer we found is in-store. The savings come from the Black Friday to Cyber Monday sale (up to 50% off select styles in 2025, with an extra 10% for UGG Rewards members on Cyber Monday) and from picking the right store: Zappos sits at 10% on Rakuten today, which beats the direct portal rate by a wide margin whenever ugg.com isn't running a sale. The catch is stock. The styles everyone wants sell through in popular sizes before the sale peaks.

Retailer overview

UGG is the sheepskin footwear brand owned by Deckers, the same company behind Hoka. Its core styles (the Classic Ultra Mini at $160, the Tasman and Tasman II slippers around $110 to $125, the Tazz, the Classic Mini) are the same products every fall, which makes UGG unusually predictable to plan around. Deckers doesn’t need to discount them, and outside of one big holiday window and the UGG Closet clearance events, it mostly doesn’t.

That shapes the stack. The portal rate on ugg.com is a flat 2%. There’s no online card offer. The loyalty program pays roughly 8% back in coupons, but they’re codes with a 90-day clock. What moves the price is the Black Friday to Cyber Monday sale, and what limits it is inventory.

Cashback portal strategy

Portal Current rate Notes
Rakuten 2% Online and in-store (linked card). Excludes gift cards, employee and resale orders. Unlisted codes may void cashback.
TopCashback 2% Item price only. Start with an empty cart. Codes not shown on TopCashback void cashback.
Capital One Shopping 0.5% Excludes e-gift cards.

Two things stand out. First, 2% is the rate on every check we made, and Rakuten’s own holiday store page for UGG advertises the same 2%. We found no record of a ugg.com spike. Second, the resellers do spike. Rakuten shows Zappos at 10% today (marked “was 2%”), and Zappos carries the full UGG line at full price, excluding Final Sale items marked down more than 50% from cashback. Nordstrom pays 2.4% on TopCashback and nothing on Rakuten. Amazon pays nothing.

So the portal question is really a store question. When ugg.com is running a sale, buy direct: 30% to 50% off beats 10% back. When it isn’t, the reseller portal rate is the bigger number, and Zappos throws in 365-day returns against UGG’s 30.

Credit card / Amex Offer strategy

Two Amex Offers on UGG in the tracking sites we checked, both in-store:

  • 3% back as a statement credit on in-store purchases, up to $250, expired October 31, 2024
  • 4% back as a statement credit on in-store purchases at UGG by November 2, 2026, up to $250 (first seen September 2, 2026)

The live offer excludes outlet locations and online orders, and Amex’s terms require purchases made directly with the merchant. That makes it a separate path, not a layer on the online stack: Rakuten’s 2% in-store rate is a linked-card offer, so it could in principle pay on the same swipe, but we haven’t seen a confirmed double post and wouldn’t plan on it. If you’re near a UGG store during the sale, the offer is worth 4% on a purchase you’d already be making.

No Chase Offer on UGG surfaced for 2025 or 2026. No direct-only card credit exists for UGG.

Pick the card by the store. In a UGG store, the Amex with the offer added; online, any card with purchase protection. At Nordstrom, check the Offers tab first, because Nordstrom’s own Amex Offers are the reason to shop there at all, and they never combine with the ugg.com portal rate.

UGG Rewards and discount programs

UGG Rewards. Free. One point per dollar, plus 25 to 50 points for signing up, completing a profile, building a wish list, and referrals. Every 250 points converts automatically into a $20 coupon that expires in 90 days, one per transaction. That’s an 8% earn rate if you spend $250 in a window where you’ll come back within 90 days, and 0% if you don’t. Tiers run January to December: Select under $250, Premium from $250 to $500 (25% bonus points on in-store purchases, birthday double points, free expedited shipping), Elite over $500 (50% bonus, free next-day shipping). All members get free standard shipping, free returns, early access to promotions and sales, and, in 2025, the extra 10% on Cyber Monday. Points post about 15 days after purchase and are clawed back on returns.

Join the program before Black Friday. The extra 10% and early access were the two most valuable things on UGG’s site in 2025 and both were members-only.

Join code. 10% off a first order, emailed as a code. Terms: “cannot be stacked with other promotions,” excludes collaborations and select limited releases, ugg.com only. Not listed on Rakuten, so treat it as an either/or with cashback.

Students. 10% off full-priced styles via UNiDAYS verification.

Community Heroes. 10% off per order for educators, medical professionals, first responders, and military, once a month, verified through SheerID. UGG’s sales page also describes 10% off all orders including sale items for military on Veterans Day.

Email signup. Early notice of drops and offers, no stated discount. The 10% is attached to the Rewards join, not the newsletter.

Not found: a price-match policy, a refurbished or resale program, a referral discount beyond the 50-point Rewards bonus.

Best time of year to buy

Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025. UGG ran one combined “Cyber Sale” from Black Friday (November 28) through Cyber Monday, December 1, 2025 at 11:59 PM Pacific, with markdowns of 30% to 50% on select boots, slippers, apparel, and accessories. Examples from coverage that week: Tasman II $87 from $125, Classic Ultra Mini $112 from $160, Tazz II $101 from $145, Classic Short Shearling Braid $95 from $190. On Cyber Monday, UGG Rewards members got an additional 10% off sale styles, applied at checkout when signed in (one outlet reported it as code MEMBER10CYBER), plus double points and a free sock pack on $200+ orders through November 27. We found no record of Rakuten or TopCashback paying more than their standard 2% on ugg.com that week, and no card offer covered online orders. We couldn’t verify the exact day the markdowns first went live before Black Friday.

Stock is the constraint. By Cyber Monday, SheKnows noted the Tasman II had “already sold out in several sizes,” and Blacker Friday warned that Classic boots, Neumel styles, slippers, and seasonal accessories may sell out before Cyber Monday. If you wear a common size in a core color, the extra 10% on the last day is worth less than the risk of your size being gone.

What to expect in 2026. Black Friday is November 27. Expect the same shape: a members-first sale across the long weekend, up to 50% on select styles, a Cyber Monday member extra, and thin stock in the popular sizes by the end. Join UGG Rewards in October, not on the day.

Black Friday to Cyber Monday
November 28 to December 1 in 2025. Up to 50% off select styles; members got an extra 10% on Cyber Monday. Popular sizes sell out before the end. 2026: November 27 to 30.
Up to 50% + 10%
UGG Closet
A few times a year, members early. Past events in late summer/early fall and around March or April, 30% to 70% off past-season styles. 2026 dates unverified.
30-70% off
Off-season (late spring, summer)
Boots and slippers rotate through the permanent sale section. Better selection, shallower depth. Resellers are often cheaper than direct here.

Any time, Zappos
Full price, Rakuten 10% today (base 2%). 365-day returns. The default when ugg.com has no sale.

Product cadence: the core styles carry over every year with new colorways in the fall. New colorways of the Ultra Mini and Tasman are the ones that disappear fastest and the least likely to be marked down.

Common exclusions and fine print

  • Sale prices, the join code, UNiDAYS, and Community Heroes are one-at-a-time; only the member Cyber Monday extra has stacked on a sale price
  • Rewards coupons expire in 90 days, one per transaction, and are voided if the qualifying purchase is returned
  • Unlisted codes may void Rakuten and do void TopCashback; start TopCashback with an empty cart
  • Collaborations and limited releases are excluded from the join code and rarely go on sale
  • Zappos Final Sale items marked down more than 50% are excluded from Rakuten cashback
  • The Amex Offer is in-store only, excludes outlets and online, and requires buying direct
  • 30-day returns from the invoice date; unworn and clean; free prepaid label; free standard shipping on full-price items and sale orders of $125+

Checkout sequence

  1. Join UGG Rewards before the sale (free). Sign in on the day so the member extra applies.
  2. Check ugg.com for a sale on your style and size. In a sale: continue direct. No sale: compare Zappos with Rakuten at 10% (and Nordstrom if you hold a live Nordstrom Amex Offer).
  3. Clean browser session, ad blockers off. Activate Rakuten (or TopCashback, same 2%) and click through to ugg.com.
  4. Build the cart at the sale price. Don't enter the join code, a UNiDAYS or SheerID code, or a coupon that isn't on the portal's UGG page. If UGG asks for a member code for the extra 10%, use the one on the sale banner and expect the portal may not pay on that order.
  5. Pay with a card that has purchase protection. Rewards points earn regardless of card.
  6. Confirm Rakuten shows the order pending within a few days. Points post in about 15 days; watch the 90-day clock on any $20 coupon.
Worked example

Classic Ultra Mini, $160 list

Cyber-sale price (2025 level)$112.00
UGG Rewards extra 10% (Cyber Monday)-$11.20
Rakuten 2% on $100.80-$2.02
You pay~$99 (38% off)

No sale, Path A (ugg.com): $160 with the 10% join code is $144, and the code may void the 2%. Path B (Zappos): $160 with Rakuten at 10% is $144 net, with 365-day returns and no code risk. Same price, better terms at Zappos; the sale is what beats both.

FAQ

Does the UGG Rewards extra 10% stack with the sale price?
It did on Cyber Monday 2025. Coverage that day described up to 50% off sale styles with an additional 10% for UGG Rewards members, applied at checkout once signed in (Blacker Friday reported it as code MEMBER10CYBER). That's an extra 10% off already-marked-down styles, not 10% off full price. The 10% join code is different: UGG's own terms say it cannot be stacked with other promotions.
Should I buy at ugg.com, Zappos, or Nordstrom?
During a ugg.com sale, direct. The sale price plus the member 10% beats any reseller's portal rate. Outside a sale, Zappos wins on cashback today (Rakuten 10%, was 2%) and on returns (365 days versus UGG's 30). Nordstrom pays 2.4% on TopCashback and nothing on Rakuten, so it only makes sense if a Nordstrom Amex Offer is live on your card. See the Nordstrom guide for that layer.
Does the Amex Offer work online?
No. The offer we found (4% back as a statement credit, up to $250, expires November 2, 2026) is for in-store purchases at UGG's own US stores. It excludes outlet locations and online orders, and Amex's terms require buying direct. It's a separate path from the portal stack, which is online only.
Are the Classic Ultra Mini and Tasman in the sale?
Select colorways were in 2025: SheKnows listed the Tasman II at $87 (from $125) and the Classic Ultra Mini at $112 (from $160) on Cyber Monday, and noted the Tasman II had already sold out in several sizes. Core colors in the most popular styles are the ones most likely to stay full price or sell through first. We couldn't verify colorway-level exclusions from UGG's own terms.
Do the student and hero discounts stack with anything?
Students get 10% off full-priced styles through UNiDAYS. Educators, medical professionals, first responders, and military get 10% off per order, once a month, verified through SheerID. Both are full-price discounts, so they're the play between sales, not on top of one. Whether they void Rakuten depends on whether a code is entered at checkout; neither is listed on Rakuten's UGG page.
What's the return window?
30 days from the invoice date for online orders, with a prepaid USPS label. Items have to be unworn and clean; UGG says dirty shoes get sent back. Products not bought directly from UGG get an exchange or site credit, not a refund. Zappos and Nordstrom both give you longer.
Is UGG Closet still a thing?
UGG describes the Closet as a limited-time clearance event that opens a few times a year with early access for UGG Rewards members. Past coverage puts it in late summer or early fall and again around March or April, at 30% to 70% off past-season styles. We couldn't verify 2026 dates; the sale section on ugg.com rotates markdowns year-round in between.
