Retailer overview
Herman Miller is the Michigan furniture maker behind the Aeron, Embody, and Eames lounge chair, and since 2021 half of MillerKnoll (the other half being Knoll, which shares the Design Within Reach showrooms). The US direct store is store.hermanmiller.com. It also runs a Professional channel for small businesses and a refurbished program for returned and demo chairs.
Two things changed the buying math in 2025 and 2026. MillerKnoll added tariff surcharges and price increases in June 2025, which pushed the base Aeron from $1,805 in late 2024 to about $2,050 by May 2026. And the 25% sales, which used to feel like events, now run roughly five times a year. A 25% sale on a price that went up 14% is partly recovering ground, so buying at full price has become a worse idea than it already was.

Rakuten’s page shows no “was” rate, and we couldn’t verify a 2025 or 2026 spike. Plan on 2%. It pays on the sale price, and refurbished orders aren’t excluded in the terms (though we haven’t confirmed a tracked refurb order ourselves).

Credit card / Amex Offer strategy
No Amex Offer or Chase Offer for hermanmiller.com surfaced in 2025 or 2026. A Bank of America 1.5% online offer (expiring September 14, 2026) and a Citi Merchant Offer at 3% in-store (expired April 2025) have appeared; those are click-through or card-linked offers that replace a portal rather than stack with one.
Herman Miller codes as furniture or home furnishings, so there’s no travel-card category bonus. Use the card with the best flat return and purchase protection.
Sale windows and programs
The 25% sales. Memorial Day (through May 28 in 2026), Fall Sale (August 20 to September 22, 2026), Black Friday (November 14 to December 2 in 2025), and a holiday extension (“sale extended, 25% off everything”). The gaming line runs the same 25% on its own schedule (August 30 to September 22 for the current one). Sales exclude gift cards and can’t be combined with any other promotion.
Refurbished. Herman Miller sells refurbished Aerons ($945 to $975) and Aeron Classics ($695 to $815) direct, with a 5-year warranty. Final sale, no returns. Stock rotates; check the refurbished page rather than waiting for a sale, because refurbished pricing doesn’t move with the events.
Professional. The Herman Miller Professional channel is a quote-based program for small businesses. Rakuten explicitly excludes Design Specialist orders, so a quoted order won’t track.
What doesn’t exist. We found no published education, healthcare, military, or MillerKnoll employee-family discount on the US store, no referral program, and no email-signup code (signup gets you sale notifications, not a percentage).
Best time of year to buy
If you’re more than a few weeks from the next window, the refurbished store is the only reason to buy today.
Common exclusions and fine print
- Sale events can’t be combined with other promotions
- Gift cards, employee-discount orders, and Design Specialist orders earn no cashback
- Any promo code not listed on Rakuten may void cashback
- Returns within 30 days carry a 10% restocking fee on most items and $99 return shipping on performance seating
- Custom, special-order, and refurbished items are non-returnable
- 14-day price adjustment if the price drops after purchase
Checkout sequence
- Check whether a 25% sale is running. If not, check the refurbished page for your configuration, or wait.
- Clean browser session, ad blockers off. Activate Rakuten and click through to store.hermanmiller.com.
- Configure the chair. The sale price applies automatically; don't enter any outside code.
- Pay with your best flat-return card. There's no category bonus or live card offer to chase.
- Confirm Rakuten shows the order pending within 48 hours.
- If the price drops within 14 days, request the adjustment.
