Retailer overview
Hyatt is the smallest of the big US hotel programs and, for luxury stays, the most useful. The brands that matter here are Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Thompson, Miraval, and the top of Grand Hyatt. They share World of Hyatt, the Chase co-brand card, and hyatt.com, so one page covers them. What they don’t share is the fine print: Amex Offers and the holiday sale name specific brands, and the card booking programs (Amex FHR, Chase The Edit, Hyatt Privé) only cover the luxury end. The structural difference from Marriott is that hyatt.com mostly isn’t on the portals, so the leverage is in points and card programs, not cash back.
Cashback portal strategy
| Portal | Current rate | Key exclusions |
|---|---|---|
| TopCashback | 3% Under Canvas; 2% Discoverist; 1% Explorist, Globalist, Lifetime Globalist | Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific properties; codes not shown on TopCashback; room rate only |
| Capital One Shopping | 1% | Completed reservations only; EMEA and Asia-Pacific excluded; promo codes not from Capital One void it; gift-card redemption only |
| Rakuten | Not listed for stays | shop/hyatt returns 404. The World of Hyatt Points page pays 1.25% on points purchases and says cash back is not available on hotel bookings |
TopCashback’s tier labels are odd (Under Canvas is a glamping brand, the other two are elite tiers, and there is no line for a member with no status); we are reporting the page as written. Cash back is on the room rate, not taxes or resort fees, and pays only after checkout.
History matters more than the current rate. Rakuten listed World of Hyatt at 3% on December 1, 2025, raised it to 15% (or 15x Amex or Bilt points) for Cyber Monday, and the listing was gone within days. Capital One Shopping showed 10 to 15% targeted the same week; TopCashback ran 10.1% for the weekend of July 24, 2026. When Hyatt reappears it is for days, not months.

Credit cards: World of Hyatt card, Chase points, Amex Offers, and the FHR/Edit fork
World of Hyatt credit card (Chase, $95): 4 bonus points per dollar at Hyatt on top of the 5x base, automatic Discoverist status, five qualifying nights a year plus two per $5,000 spent, and an annual Category 1-4 free night. The free night doesn’t reach a Park Hyatt; those are mostly Category 5 and up. Current welcome offer: up to 60,000 points (30,000 after $3,000 in three months, plus up to 30,000 through 2x on the first $15,000). January to February 2026 ran five free nights instead.
Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795, $300 travel credit) is the other Hyatt card, for one reason: Ultimate Rewards transfer to World of Hyatt at 1:1. Hyatt moved to five dynamic award tiers in 2026 with Park Hyatt nights at roughly 15,000 to 55,000 points. A $600 Park Hyatt night at 35,000 points is 1.7 cents per point, against about 2 cents for a Chase point on cash travel, which is why this is the most-used transfer in the program. Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred drop to 4:3 on October 1, 2026 (new applicants since June 15 already are). Reserve stays at 1:1, and Reserve cardholders who spend $75,000 in a year get Explorist from mid-2026. Card details →
Amex Offers. Targeted and brand-specific. $100 on $500 at select resorts ran September 2025; $75 on $300 at Hyatt Regency, Centric, Grand Hyatt, Destination, and Hyatt brand expired June 30, 2026; and $100 back on $500 is live July 15 to November 15, 2026 with the same brand list, direct bookings only, prepaid rates excluded. None of the three named Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Thompson, or Miraval. On an eligible property it’s a statement credit on a direct booking, so it stacks with a portal click and with points.
Chase Offers in 2026: Hyatt Place (7%, $50 cap, through September 30), Hyatt All-Inclusive ($100 on $1,000, expired August 31), Under Canvas (15%, $70 cap, expired August 31). All direct-only, none at the luxury brands.
World of Hyatt program mechanics
- Earning: 5 base points per dollar on eligible charges, plus 10% Discoverist, 20% Explorist, 30% Globalist. The Points Guy valued a point at 1.6 cents in July 2026.
- Elite tiers: Discoverist at 10 nights, Explorist at 30, Globalist at 60. Globalist gets club access or full breakfast, standard suite upgrades at check-in, waived resort fees on eligible rates, and 4pm checkout.
- Member rate: hyatt.com and the call center only, can’t combine with other promotions. Hyatt doesn’t publish a percentage. The Member Advance Purchase Rate is non-refundable when booked seven or more days out.
- Hyatt Privé: the travel-advisor version of FHR. Flexible rate plus a $50 to $100 property credit, breakfast, confirmed upgrade, and early or late checkout, with full points and elite benefits. All Park Hyatt, Andaz, and Miraval, select Alila, Thompson, Grand Hyatt, and Centric. No card required, no portal.
- Cancellation: 48 hours before check-in on flexible rates; 24 hours for Explorists and Globalists where the hotel’s window is 48 hours or shorter. FHR and Edit credits are prepaid and clawed back on cancellation.
- Promotions: Bonus Journeys ran February 2 to April 15, 2026 (3,000 points per three nights, 28,000 cap). A summer promo ran July 1 to September 7 (2,000 points per two nights from the second stay, 8,000 cap). Nothing announced for fall 2026 as of September 15.
Timing
Portal spikes have been short and unannounced: a week in December 2025, one weekend in July 2026. Cyber Monday week is the one window where a North American Hyatt stay has been a full three-layer stack.
Common exclusions and gotchas
- Rakuten pays nothing on Hyatt stays, only on points purchases
- TopCashback and Capital One Shopping exclude every Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific property (Park Hyatt Paris, Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Maldives are out)
- Taxes and resort fees earn no cash back; cash back posts only after a completed stay; award stays and gift cards earn nothing
- The 2026 Amex Offer excludes prepaid rates and doesn’t list Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Thompson, or Miraval
- FHR, The Edit, and Hyatt Privé don’t track on portals and can’t take the member, AAA, or corporate rate
- OTA bookings earn no World of Hyatt points or elite nights
- Sapphire Preferred transfers drop to 4:3 on October 1, 2026
Booking sequence
- Pick the path. Park Hyatt, Andaz, or Alila with an unused Platinum hotel credit or Reserve Edit credit: Path B, book prepaid through Amex Travel or Chase Travel, skip the portal. Credit already spent, or a Hyatt Regency or Grand Hyatt where the Amex Offer applies: Path A, continue.
- Register for any live World of Hyatt promotion. Check Amex Offers and Chase Offers, add any Hyatt offer, and read its brand list.
- Clean browser session, ad blockers off. Activate TopCashback (or Capital One Shopping) and click through to hyatt.com. Confirm the property is in the Americas.
- Sign into World of Hyatt. Book the standard flexible rate if an Amex Offer is in play (prepaid is excluded); otherwise the member or advance-purchase rate is fine, since neither portal's terms exclude it.
- Pay with the World of Hyatt card (4x) or the card holding a live offer if it's worth more.
- Cash back shows pending within a few days and pays after checkout. Don't cancel and rebook; it resets the tracking.
Two nights at a Park Hyatt, $600/night ($1,200 room rate), World of Hyatt card, Discoverist
Path B on the same stay via Amex FHR with the Platinum: $300 semiannual hotel credit, $100 property credit, two breakfasts for two (~$120 at Park Hyatt prices), upgrade and 4pm checkout. Roughly $520 in credits and perks, about 43% of the rate, plus 5x Membership Rewards on the prepaid Amex Travel charge and World of Hyatt points if the property posts them. Via The Edit with the Reserve: $250 instead of $300, same $100 and breakfast, 8x Ultimate Rewards, and Hyatt points and elite nights per Chase. Path B wins by about $300 unless the card credit is already used this period.

Rakuten ran 15% and Capital One Shopping 14% on Hyatt over Cyber Monday 2025, and TopCashback ran 10.1% for one July 2026 weekend. We email the day any portal lists hyatt.com again, when a global points promotion opens, and when an Amex or Chase Hyatt offer appears.
