Sixt SE was founded in Munich in 1912 and is still family-led from Pullach, Bavaria. Its whole pitch is premium fleet at mainstream prices: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche in the orange livery, an app-first pickup, and a US network that has nearly tripled since 2019. Group revenue passed 4.2 billion euros in 2025 and US revenue crossed 1.5 billion dollars for the first time, with new airport locations (Dallas Love Field, Boise) announced for 2026.

Sixt is a public company that does not seed promo codes the way DTC brands do. The savings come from three places: cashback portals, card offers, and its own loyalty tiers.

Cashback portal strategy

TopCashback pays the most today, but Rakuten is the better tracker: TopCashback will not investigate a missing Sixt payout, which matters on a rental that runs into the thousands. On a $600 week the difference between 8% and 4% is $24; on a $3,000 rental it is $120, which is worth the claim risk for most people. When Rakuten spikes back to 12% or more, it wins on both counts. Credit card / Amex Offer strategy

Amex Offers on Sixt recur roughly twice a year. The 2025 and 2026 cycles were both structured as $100 back on $500 or more at sixt.com, and a separate $199 back on $1,000 offer targeted the Sixt+ subscription in 2025. The most recent offer ran through September 15, 2026; search “Sixt” in each of your Amex accounts before booking. Chase ran 15% back (up to $76) on $500 in late 2025.

For category earning, car rentals code as travel on the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Capital One Venture X. The Amex Platinum’s 5x is limited to airfare and prepaid hotels, so Sixt earns 1x on it.

Elite status through cards: Amex Platinum grants Avis, Hertz, and National status, not Sixt. Sapphire Reserve covers National and Avis; Venture X covers Hertz. The only card that confers Sixt status is Centurion (Diamond). The practical route is Sixt’s status match from any of those other programs.

Promo code opportunities

There are no reliable public Sixt codes. The “up to 15%” and “up to 25% on US bookings” promotions listed on Rakuten and TopCashback are Sixt’s own sale rates and do stack with portal cashback. Third-party codes (AAA, Costco, AARP) could not be verified for Sixt, and TopCashback voids cashback when you use a code it does not list, so treat outside codes as stack-breakers.

SIXT ONE loyalty program

SIXT ONE launched in the US in late 2025, replacing Sixt Advantage Circle. Members earn roughly one point per euro on the base rate, mileage, and protections, redeem points at checkout, and see them expire after 24 months. The tiers are the real value: Silver (entry) takes 8% off, Gold 10%, Platinum 15%, and Diamond 20%, and the discount applies before portal cashback is calculated. Status is earned on status points (Gold at 2,000, Platinum 4,000, Diamond 6,000) or matched from a competitor’s tier.

Best time to book

Sixt’s own guidance is to book three to six months out for peak destinations and to hold a free-cancellation Pay Later rate so you can rebook when prices drop. That directly conflicts with the portal rule, so the practical sequence is: hold a Pay Later reservation as insurance, watch for a portal spike or Amex Offer, then rebook as Pay Now through the portal inside that window and cancel the placeholder.

Common exclusions and fine print

• Rakuten: Pay Now only. Pay Later, Sixt+ subscriptions, corporate rates, and gift cards are excluded. Valid on the US site and nine European markets.
• TopCashback: prepaid only, excludes taxes and fees, the rental must occur within 90 days, and no missing-claim support.
• Prepaid rentals forfeit partner airline and hotel points.
• Amex Offer requires booking on sixt.com or the app, not through an OTA or Amex Travel.
• Cancelling a prepaid booking voids the cashback on it; a new booking tracks fresh.

Checkout sequence

1. Sign in to SIXT ONE (or status match first) so the member discount applies to the base rate.
2. Check each Amex account for a live Sixt offer and add it to the card you will pay with.
3. Open a clean browser session and compare Rakuten and TopCashback. Today TopCashback is 8% and Rakuten is at its 4% floor; activate whichever is higher.
4. Click through to sixt.com, build the reservation, and choose Pay Now. Skip the extras that are not covered by your card's rental insurance.
5. Pay with the card carrying the Amex Offer, or the Sapphire Reserve if you want primary coverage.
6. Confirm the portal shows the click within 24 hours; the cashback itself posts up to six weeks after the rental ends.
